Romi Behrens
Regarded by many as one of the most important artists in Cornwall at this time, Romi  Behrens is an exciting and welcome addition to the Round House and Capstan Gallery. Much loved by her community of artists, she has exhibited far and wide over many years. The late Jeremy Le Grice described her work as  “microcosms of sheer delight”. Larry Berryman wrote of her that she "risks everything but the sitter. The brushwork takes hairpin bends, survives dangerous spills of colour and the race quickens with every glimpse of her quarry." And finally, as Michael Strang said at the time of her one woman show at the Royal Cornwall Museum in 2009, “though “Romi’s work is decidedly unique, it does like all great art set in motion a dialogue with the paintings of the past, thus taking its place in the pantheon of creation that straddles the centuries.  There are echoes of many painters here -  Picasso, Matisse, Braque -  whispering to her quietly as she creates her paintings at white heat and usually from life.” He also said that “of all the artists working in Cornwall today, Romi most deserves international recognition.”
